In a decisive move to strengthen service delivery and accelerate key development projects, the Migori County Assembly has approved a KSh 11.77 Billion Supplementary Budget to Fast-Track Priority Services for the 2025/26 financial year.
The approval, confirmed during a special assembly sitting on Tuesday this week, underscores the county’s commitment to responding to emerging needs and fulfilling its mandate to residents.
The supplementary budget, which supplements the original county budget, allocates additional funding to both recurrent and development expenditures across critical sectors including health, education, infrastructure, water services, and municipal operations.
In his remarks, South Kanyamkago MCA and Chair of the County Assembly’s Budget and Appropriations Committee Graham kagali, emphasized that the supplementary budget is a strategic investment in the county’s future.
“This supplementary appropriation reflects our dedication to ensuring that essential services continue uninterrupted and that development priorities are fully resourced. We are committed to transparency and accountability in the use of public funds, and this budget ensures that sectors confronting real needs receive the support they deserve,” said Kagali.
The approved supplementary budget is structured into two main components:
Recurrent Expenditure – KSh 7.45 Billion
Significant allocations have been approved to support salaries, operational costs, and functional activities of county ministries and municipality authorities.
Among the key beneficiaries are: Ministry of Health – Medical Services, Ministry of Finance & Economic Planning, Ministry of Public Service Management, County Assembly staff and operational costs, Municipal councils, including Awendo, Migori, and Kehancha.
These allocations are expected to ensure that vital public services continue without disruption and that staff remunerations are met promptly.
Development Expenditure – KSh 4.33 Billion
The development component of the supplementary budget focuses on expanding infrastructure and capital projects that impact the quality of life for residents.
Areas earmarked for investment include:Water and energy infrastructure,Health facilities and sanitation projects, Upgrades in municipal infrastructure Support for county-wide development initiatives
Hon. Kagali reiterated that the Budget and Appropriations Committee will continue to provide oversight throughout the implementation phase.
“We will work hand in hand with the County Treasury and sectoral departments to ensure that every shilling appropriated is accounted for, and contributes to measurable improvements in service delivery and community wellbeing,” he added.
The passage of this supplementary budget highlights a collaborative effort between the County Executive and the Assembly to respond effectively to the evolving financial needs of Migori County and to lay a solid foundation for sustained socioeconomic growth.
