Since the demise of ODM leader Raila Odinga on October 15th, National Chairperson Gladys Wanga’s presence has been felt everywhere making her a commanding figure in the national platform.
She is all over and everywhere in this or that in the interest of the Orange party, virtually making her the first among equals.
Sometimes one wonders where she draws the inexhaustible energy and timeliness of her presence in strategic political activities.
Governor Wanga, has exhibited characteristics of a lioness as she is fondly referred to by her supporters.
If it were a hunting expedition, the cubs have something every day to feed on.
She moves fearlessly, with a very high sense of bravery.
Her dominance is already being felt across the political divide and envies against her are growing at an alarming rate.
Last weekend she fired a salvo at the broadbased arrangements between UDA and ODM saying the encroachment of her party’s strong holds shouldn’t be entertained whatsoever.
She was sharply reacting to a statement made by Kenneth Obuya, the Homa Bay County UDA chairman who declared in Awasi during the burial of KBC Mayienga FM head, Festus Amimo that as a party despite the broadbased arrangement, UDA will field all candidates from the position of MCA to governorship in all Luo Counties.
Mr. Obuya who is the liaison chairman of all the 47 counties, pointed that in the ten-point agenda there is no provision of zoning.
“Broadbased is not complete without UDA,” said the furious Obuya to the chagrin of ODM brigade who attended the burial in their numbers.
Migori Senator Eddie Muok and Kisumu County Assembly Majority Whip Seth Kanga alias Adui Nyang’ hit out at Ugenya MP David Ochieng’ and declared that Nyanza is a no go zone for any political party and is preserve for ODM.
While addressing the mourners, Governor Wanga took issue with those calling for free for all scenarios come 2027 adding that there will be no encouragement.
“We will not allow for anything sort of encroachment in ODM zones,” said Wanga.
During the just concluded by-elections, Wanga went all over campaigning vigorously for ODM candidates both at parliamentary level and county assemblies across the country.
She clearly provided leadership in the absence of Mr. Odinga organised various campaign programmes with zeal to the shock of both friends and foes.
Her whirlwind move captured the imagination of the late Mr. Odinga’s followers who least expected such operations with demise of the enigma
