An aspirant who is keen to replace a third-term serving incumbent MP and a big fish in ODM found himself on a frying pan after his speech at a funeral provoked mourners.
Bruno Liende who is grooming himself for Suna East MP seat in 2027, had a hard time calming down a section of mourners who accused him of insults.
In order to proceed with his speech, he had to apologize to mourners who accused him of misquoting them and branding them as goons at a funeral in Kwa ward, Suna East constituency.
The aspirant who shelved his ambition for Suna East constituents in 2022 elections was replying to his opposers who accused him of indulging in early politics and using his supporters to disharmony in the constituency.
Prior to his speech, Bruno Liende was also accused of creating menial jobs for learned youths and using them to insult leaders on the social media.
- “I want to tell you that the youths that you are using to insult leaders on the social media are our learned brothers who deserve decent jobs,” said one of the angered mourners.
Bruno on the other hand, accused the opponents of using crude weapons to disrupt peace at public gatherings to scare those that they presume as threats for the incumbent MP in 2027 general elections.
“I have listened here carefully while seated, one referring to youths in my team that they’re doing menial jobs. That is not worse than those in the other camp that are using pangas to cause conflict and threaten those who are grooming themselves for the seat come 2027,” he said.
The scene became ugly and scary when the irate youths immediately ganged attempting to take the microphone from him with others shouting at him to leave and go.
It had to take the indulgence of the area chief and Member of County assembly to put things under control.
Prior to the frenzy scene, the aspirant had waited for a moment before his speech following a power blackout which he said was stage managed to bar him from addressing the mourners.
He later in a reaction to the fracas, accused those allied to the incumbent MP of choreographing the events prior to the burial date.
He however, said that no amount of pressure or threat will thwart his ambition to send Junnet Mohamed home and replace him as SUNA East Mp in 2027.
“A drawing man clutches at a straw and this is a precise description of the incumbent MP Junnet Mohamed. He has started packing and the constituents should be ready for a new Suna East,” Bruno Liende
Early campaigns
Speaking at the same event, ODM youth leader Erick Opany condemned early campaigns urging those involving in the campaigns to wait till the right time.
He said that it is time for the constituents to witness elected leaders delivering their promises and responding to their problems other than a cycle of campaigns which drag the attention of the leaders in office.
“I want to appeal for a conducive environment for the leaders to deliver what they promised. It is too early to campaign yet no seat has been rendered vacant so far in Migori County,” he said.
Youths brewing conflict on social media
Opany also warned youths from misusing the internet by posting abusive languages against leaders on the social media.

He warned that in any instance, youths are the most vulnerable and need the leaders to create employment opportunities which has been a great challenge for those who are graduating from schools.
“I want to urge youths to be responsible and stop misusing the internet especially the social media. Let it remain known to us, the repercussions of being reckless on social media especially for fellow youths,” he said.
Of the same opinion was former Migori Member of Parliament Owino Acholla, who told the mourners to practice self restraint and peaceful coexistenceas a recipe for attracting development.
“I want to remind us that peace is a prerequisite for development and lack of the same will make us a stagnated community,” said the former MP.
Peace, a kin do development
Area chief Philip Kisiagro however condemned the act of attacks meted on leaders as they sell their agenda for the people.
“We all have a freedom of speech and that we should listen to leaders as they sell their agenda peacefully without causing chaos,” he said.
Kisiagro however warned that going forward, political leaders will not be allowed to address mourners as they have always used that opportunity to play politics.
