The Nyanza Young Professionals have strongly condemned the criticism directed at them following their recent visit to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The group insists that their meeting, held two weeks ago, was conducted in good faith and aimed at discussing pressing national issues affecting youth across the country.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Mr. Peter Odhiambo, Chairman of the Nyanza Young Professionals Movement, emphasized that their engagement with the former Deputy President was focused on youth empowerment and national development.
“As young people, we have a constitutional right to associate with any leader in the country. Our visit was purely intended to discuss issues that concern the youth, including job opportunities and economic empowerment,” stated Mr. Odhiambo.
The group has decried the verbal attacks and threats they have faced from certain Nyanza politicians following the visit. They maintain that engaging leaders from all political backgrounds is essential for advancing the interests of the youth and fostering national unity.
Furthermore, the Nyanza Young Professionals reminded President William Ruto of his promise to reinstate the Kazi Mtaani youth empowerment program. They questioned whether the government still has concrete plans for job creation, particularly in their region.
In addition, the group urged youths across the country to take an active role in shaping Kenya’s future by registering as voters ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“We call upon all young people to participate in the electoral process. Registering as voters is a critical step in ensuring that our voices are heard and our interests represented,” they emphasized.
The Nyanza Young Professionals reaffirm their commitment to engaging leaders across the political spectrum to advocate for policies that uplift and empower young people nationwide.
