Police Seize and Destroy 3,500 Litres of Illicit Brew in Kimilili Crackdown

Police officers in Kimilili, Bungoma County, have destroyed over 3,500 litres of illicit brew in an operation coordinated by the Sub-county security officers.

While addressing the media, Kimilili Deputy County Commissioner Jackson Ole Chuta announced that the security team meticulously mapped out the brewing dens earmarked for raids.

Within the Kimilili Division, the DCC disclosed that the team pinpointed three illicit brewing dens.

“The raiding contingent was organized into sub-groups under the leadership of Assistant County Commissioners and police inspectors,”  he added.

Authorities successfully dismantled 3,500 litres of Busaa, seized 66 litres of chang’aa, and apprehended two principal brewers.

“We apprehended two primary suspects involved in the brewing operations and detained another individual found in possession of 400 rolls of bhang,” Chuta stated.

Chuta emphasized that the brewing facilities failed to meet regulatory standards, cautioning other potential offenders.

“During our operations, we encountered numerous dens that did not meet acceptable standards,” Chuta remarked, highlighting that the raids resulted in school dropouts within raided homesteads.

Chuta reiterated the ongoing commitment to curb illicit brew production in Kimilili.

“We are making significant strides in combating illicit brew production. Since the inception of our operations, we have witnessed a decline,” he asserted, underscoring the collaborative efforts with local residents.

Furthermore, Chuta mentioned collaboration with law enforcement agencies from neighboring constituencies to prevent breweries from evading capture.

“We urge our community to cooperate with law enforcement officers in our fight against this scourge, which has led to a surge in school dropouts,” he appealed.

Chuta also implored the political leadership to unite in the campaign against illicit brews in the region.

The raid follows concerns raised by Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa regarding heightened insecurity incidents in the area.

Responding to Barasa’s concerns, Kimilili Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Mwita Maroa assured that the police had initiated investigations to apprehend suspects involved in the reported incidents.
