The Nairobi Hospital Vows Stability Amid Leadership Storm

The Nairobi Hospital Board has broken its silence amid mounting scrutiny over internal wrangles and a high-profile criminal investigation, vowing to maintain uninterrupted healthcare services and restore public confidence in its leadership.

In a press briefing held at the hospital’s amphitheatre on Tuesday, newly appointed Board Chair Barcley Onyambu addressed growing concerns about the institution’s management, assuring Kenyans that the hospital remains focused on its core mission of delivering quality healthcare.

“Leadership confidence is vital to any institution, particularly one central to the health of the community,” Onyambu stated.

“The recent reports on integrity and leadership are isolated and do not detract from our focus. The Board continues to work cohesively, guided by a strong leadership team and a commitment to shared values.”

Acting CEO Felix Osano echoed the sentiment, stressing that the hospital’s pursuit of excellence is unwavering.

“We are taking decisive steps to address challenges and ensure The Nairobi Hospital remains a beacon of trust and quality healthcare in Kenya,” he said.

The remarks come in the wake of an ongoing investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which began with a dramatic raid at the hospital and has since raised questions about patient data confidentiality and governance.

The High Court has issued a stay on the probe and granted anticipatory bail to Board members.

Amid the legal turbulence, The Nairobi Hospital has undertaken a shake-up of its board, bringing in new members with diverse expertise aimed at strengthening oversight and strategic direction.

“We believe that the changes we have made will accelerate our momentum towards institutional excellence,” Onyambu added.

In recent months, the hospital has also grappled with internal disputes, including controversial suspensions of medical personnel and power struggles within its governance structure.

These issues have led to public outcry and calls for a leadership overhaul.Despite the mounting challenges, the Board expressed optimism about the hospital’s trajectory.

Key measures, they said, are already in place to ensure business continuity and protect core services from disruption.

“We recognise that we will be judged by how well we lead the hospital beyond this period,” Onyambu said.

“Our dedicated staff continues to deliver uninterrupted and quality service to the public.”
