Three minors are fighting for their lives in hospital following a fire incident in the Matopeni area of Kayole, Nairobi. The fire, which broke out early Wednesday morning, left the children, aged five, three, and nine months, severely injured. Locals were quick to respond and managed to contain the fire’s spread before the children were rescued.
The minors were first taken to Mama Lucy Hospital for treatment before being transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital in serious condition. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
Nairobi Police Commander, George Sedah, confirmed that a team of experts has been assigned to investigate the cause of the fire. The whereabouts of the children’s parents at the time of the incident are unclear.
Investigation Underway Following Drowning Incident in River Yala
In a separate incident, police are investigating a drowning in River Yala, located in Gem, Siaya County. The body of 40-year-old Chrispine Onyango Onyakha was discovered floating in the river within Ugolwe village after he had been missing for several hours.
Onyakha, who had a history of cerebral malaria and was undergoing medication, was last seen before disappearing. His body, showing slight head injuries suspected to be caused by stones, was recovered and taken to the Yala Level Four Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Murder Investigation in Matuu, Machakos County
In Matuu, Machakos County, a 30-year-old man identified as Mulei Malira was found dead in the Siranga area following a suspected murder. Police discovered that Malira had been struck on the right side of his head with a stone, which was found beside the body. A packet of miraa was also recovered from the scene.
The body was moved to Kitui Level Five Mortuary for further examination. The motive behind the murder remains unclear, and investigations are underway.
Suicides in Kisumu and Kayole Prompt Increased Focus on Mental Health
Two separate suicide incidents were reported in Kisumu’s Dago area and Kayole, Nairobi. The bodies of the two men were transported to the mortuary, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted.
