Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has cautioned political leaders against scrambling for credit over national government development projects, saying such initiatives are implemented through joint coordination with county governments and should not be used for political gain.
Speaking on Saturday at Mori Primary School in Uriri Constituency, Migori County, during a women empowerment event attended by more than 1,500 women, Mbadi said leaders must stop misleading the public by claiming ownership of national projects.
“Leaders must stop scrambling for projects. You cannot give credit to one side without complementing the other. National Government projects in Migori are being delivered through collaboration with County Government. That is how devolution works,” he said.
The CS highlighted several major national projects underway in Migori County, including: Ongoing construction and equipping of Uriri Sub-County Hospital at Piny Owacho, first-phase funding of Ksh 50 million, with additional support pledged for Uriri KMTC construction.
Mbadi affirmed that the Kenya Kwanza administration is implementing development equitably across the country.
“Let us tell our people that the government of today has remembered all sections of the country. We are improving the country uniformly, not selectively,” he said.
The CS who is also the former ODM National Chairma, having served a record 10 years urged leaders from Nyanza to remain committed to the broad-based government arrangement.
“We must continue with the broad-based government. We cannot gamble with politics as Luos,” he stated.
Mbadi dismissed calls for protests, saying leaders must remain pragmatic. “We are in government, and we cannot exit to look for another government. There is no going to the streets,” he said.
He added that the cooperation between ODM and President William Ruto’s administration was strategic. “Our mission is to support President Ruto for a second term, and thereafter we seek the presidency,” he declared.
The CS also assured party members that future ODM nominations would be transparent, promising that no candidate would be handed a direct ticket.
