Days after president Ruto’s visit in Nyakach Sub County in Kisumu County to open the newly constructed Nyabondo Trauma Centre Hospital whose mission is to help serve the six counties with patients who are involve in accidents, the residents of Nyakach have come out crying foul over the mistreatment the accident patients are under going in the hospital.

Residents alleged that the Nyabondo hospital management does not care about the welfare of the patients but instead focuses on money before handling any patient.

One patient who was involved in an accident at Chabera Market along kisumu – Oyugis highway who was taken to Nyabondo hospital on Tuesday 4th August 2024 at 9 pm and he later stayed in the hospital for more than 18 hours before being attended to.

The victims relatives alleged that the hospital management wanted the patient’s kins to pay a sum of Kenya shillings 35000 for the treatment to be commenced.

John Ouma who is said to be a peasant farmer and his family could not afford the amount leading to John undergoing more pain after being taken to the hospital where he thought he could get help.

According to one of the Residents, he said that the hospital was recently launched by the president of the Republic of Kenya and the main purpose was to help the accident victims but it seems that the hospital management are in a hurry to make money than people’s lives.”

The hospital should focus in helping the lives first before asking for money, it’s quite saddening that someone who was brought to the hospital yesterday has not yet received any treatment despite being involved in an accident, said one of the residents”

Nyabondo Trauma Hospital was constructed by the Kenya National Highway Authority through the support of the African Development bank.

The main aim was to help the victims involve in an accident as a result of the newly constructed Highway from Ahero Interchange to Kisii and from kisii to Sirare Corridor.

Our efforts to talk to the hospital management bore no fruit as the Doctor incharge of the hospital refused to talk to us saying he could not comment on such matters.
