Homa Bay County Universities and Colleges Students Association (HOCUCSA) led by there Chair Mr.Zadock Nyakwaka issued a fiery press statement condemning Governor Gladys Wanga for the alleged “brazen and unjustified” closure of Deputy Governor Oyugi Magwanga’s office.
The student association’s statement, released earlier today, did not mince words, labeling the Governor’s actions as a direct assault on the rule of law and basic administrative order.
HOCUCSA claims the closure of Mr. Magwanga’s office, along with several other county offices, was executed on the Governor’s direct orders, accusing Governor Wanga of showing arrogance and blatant impunity.
”No governor has the authority to arbitrarily shut down a public office, let alone the constitutionally elected Deputy Governor,” Said Nyakwaka, denouncing the alleged action as “reckless, irrational, and a disgrace to the principles of public service.”
The association also leveled a serious accusation regarding county assets.
They claim the Governor further dispatched hired goons through her brother to forcibly seize a government vehicle legally assigned to the Deputy Governor, a move they termed thuggery masquerading as authority.
The student body suggested a political motive behind the alleged intimidation, linking the actions to the Deputy Governor’s political stance in the recent Kasipul parliamentary by-election.
Mr. Magwanga had reportedly supported Independent candidate Philip Aroko, while Governor Wanga backed Boyd Were.
HOCUCSA questioned the Governor’s motives, asking what level of retaliation would have occurred had her preferred candidate lost the by-election.
The association also took aim at the general state of county politics, lamenting that a parliamentary by-election allegedly burned through hundreds of millions of taxpayers’ money to install an MP with a meagre 16,000 votes.
They called this situation waste, coercion, and political insecurity disguised as democracy.
HOCUCSA concluded its statement with a strong call to action, urging all principled leaders, institutions, and citizens to speak out and reject these authoritarian tendencies before they take deeper root in our county.
