Renowned leadership and policy consultant Dr. Seth Odongo has expressed confidence in Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship, urging him to intensify his campaign efforts in the final stretch.
“My prayers and anticipation are with Raila Odinga. I wish him the very best and look forward to his victory. The enormity of fearlessly shaping a non-dependent Africa, capable of harnessing its untapped potential, requires a shrewd visionary, and Raila is equal in magnanimity to that task,” said Dr. Odongo.
His endorsement comes as President William Ruto, the Kenyan government, and religious leaders have thrown their weight behind Odinga’s candidacy, marking a rare moment of national unity in backing the former Prime Minister for the continental position.
The government has been actively lobbying for Odinga’s bid, leveraging diplomatic ties across Africa to rally votes ahead of the election.
Odinga, a veteran opposition leader and Pan-Africanist, has pitched his vision for a more independent and self-reliant Africa, promising reforms in governance, economic policies, and conflict resolution mechanisms within the AU.
His campaign has gained significant traction, particularly in southern and eastern Africa, where he has secured endorsements from key regional leaders.
The race for the AUC chairmanship remains competitive, with Odinga facing contenders such as Djibouti’s Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf and Madagascar’s former Foreign Minister Richard Randriamandrato.
However, analysts suggest that Odinga’s experience, diplomatic engagements, and high-profile endorsements position him as the front runner.
Dr. Odongo, emphasized the need for transformative leadership both at the national and continental levels.
“Africa, like Migori County, needs bold leadership that prioritizes economic empowerment, good governance, and people-centered policies.
Raila’s leadership at the AU would be a game-changer for the continent, just as I envision progressive change for Migori,” he added.
With the election set for later this month, Odinga is expected to intensify his lobbying efforts in West and North Africa, where support is still being consolidated.
His success in securing the chairmanship would mark a significant milestone, making him the first Kenyan to lead the AU’s executive body.
