Migori County Woman Member of Parliament Fatuma Mohammed has sharply criticized the disunity amongst political leaders in the county associating it with sluggish development.
The woman Member of Parliament who won the seat on an independent ticket has urged the leaders to remain united for the benefit of the electorates.
While speaking after disbursing bursary from the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) kitty to the needy students, Fatuma vowed to be a champion of unity for the leaders.
“I want to tell our leaders that disunited soldiers never win any battle, and that should be a reason enough for us to be united,” she said.
Fatuma who has in many occasions redeemed herself an ODM life member despite being elected on an independent ticket challenged the party defectors to think twice and go back to ODM.
“Despite being an independent Member of Parliament, I have decided to stay loyal to the party. I wonder how it would be easy for those who got direct ticket to defect after elections,” she said.
She rubbished claims of leaders visiting the State House claiming to be soliciting developments saying that it is a propaganda used by those who are fighting their own space.
In her fierce message to the ODM defectors, Fatuma said that visiting state house does not bring developments, urging them to use the given platforms they have to advocate for development projects.
“I want to state it that frequent journeys to the statehouse do not bring developments. Instead, the leaders hide behind that to solicit for personal agenda,” she added.
She urged the leaders to limit the fallout among them and work together to ensure that development become their main agenda.
She in particular beat the drums for Migori governor, Ochillo Ayacko while rallying all the leaders to work toe the line under him to make Migori a more hospitable county.
“We have no any governor apart from Ochillo Ayacko and that is a reason enough for us to toe the line under him for the benefit of all electorates,” she added.
Her call for unity comes amid the wide rift between the governor and Uriri Member of Parliament, Mark Nyamita which is becoming wider on a daily basis.
The two who have become political foes are said not to be seeing each other eye to eye amidst rumours that the latter is making his house in order to take the seat in 2027 general elections.
And just like other ODM loyals, Fatuma joined others who have in several occasions differed with Mark Nyamita.
“As Migori County, we have a task to make this great county a better place for all of us, I therefore take this opportunity to remind all of us that we only have one governor whom we should all support, Fatuma echoed.
She insisted on the importance of unity by telling the proverb of a single cooking stone that does not cook well, saying that as leaders, the electorates’ welfare remain their core responsibility.
She reminded them that as those who are in opposition, they have a responsibility to put the government on check to make better lives for Kenyans.
She reiterated that as leaders who stand for justice, they have no any other way of demanding for the same but to go out on streets, urging all the like-minded to fully support the idea.
