Residents of Embu town watched in amazement on Saturday as hundreds of jubilant Migori Youth FC supporters took over the streets in a colourful show of football passion ahead of their team’s final National Super League (NSL) fixture against 3K FC.
The massive travelling contingent, which journeyed more than 450 kilometres from Migori to Embu, transformed the usually quiet town into a carnival-like atmosphere as they sang, danced, blew whistles and vuvuzelas, and beat drums in celebration of their club’s historic achievement.
Many local residents initially mistook the large procession for a political rally or a public demonstration, with some traders briefly closing their businesses as the chanting supporters streamed into town.
However, it soon became clear that the visitors were football faithful who had travelled to witness and celebrate Migori Youth FC’s remarkable rise to the top tier of Kenyan football.
The Migori-based side has already secured promotion to the FKF Premier League for the first time in the club’s history after clinching the National Super League title with a match to spare.
Among those who made the journey were parents of players, close relatives, community leaders and lifelong supporters determined to witness the crowning moment of a season that has captured the imagination of football fans across Migori County.
“We are proud of our sons and what they have achieved. This is a historic day not only for the club but for Migori County as a whole,” said one parent who travelled with the team.
Others described the trip as a once-in-a-lifetime experience, noting that many had never visited Embu before and never imagined football would one day take them across the country.
The celebrations reflected the growing bond between the club and the community, with supporters crediting the team’s success to years of persistence and investment in local talent.
Migori Youth FC patron and Uriri Member of Parliament Mark Nyamita joined players and supporters in celebrating the club’s championship triumph, hailing the achievement as a major milestone for sports development in the county.
The sea of white-clad supporters drew admiration from Embu residents, many of whom stopped along the streets to watch and record videos of the lively procession.
“It is rare to see such passion and organisation from travelling fans. The energy they brought to town was incredible,” said one Embu resident.
The festivities continued long after the final whistle as supporters danced and sang victory songs, savouring a moment that has elevated Migori Youth FC onto the national football stage.
