Mombasa, Kenya’s coastal gem, rang in the New Year with a dazzling array of celebrations that captivated both locals and international visitors. The vibrant city buzzed with energy as the festivities brought a significant boost to the local economy.

The streets of Mombasa were beautifully adorned with festive lights and decorations, setting the tone for a night filled with music, food, and joyous cheer. Traditional and modern tunes filled the air, creating an atmosphere of excitement. Local businesses were equally excited, with taxi drivers like Arthman Karisa reporting a surge in demand. “Business has been booming. The demand is high with tourists flocking in for both Christmas and New Year’s celebrations,” said Arthman. “It’s great for us locals. The city is packed, and the celebratory mood is infectious.”

Fishermen, too, saw a boost in business. Musa Pondo, a seasoned fisherman, shared, “We’re selling more fish than usual. The tourists love our fresh seafood, and locals are indulging as well.”

Street food vendors, such as Khadija Said from Tudor, were busy grilling kebabs, “viazi karai,” “mishakiki,” and grilled fish. “The aroma of our food is drawing in the crowds,” she said, noting that everyone seemed to be enjoying the festive fare.

International tourists were equally impressed with Mombasa’s New Year energy. Sarah Beckett from London exclaimed, “The energy here is electric, and the people are so welcoming. The fireworks were unforgettable, and we’ve made amazing memories.”

David Saskia from Austria shared similar sentiments, “The music, food, and dancing are vibrant and authentic. We’re so glad we chose Mombasa for our New Year celebration. It’s a completely different vibe from back home.”

Local tourists also enjoyed the celebrations, with Ann Njeri from Kirinyaga County saying, “I’ve never seen Mombasa so alive. It’s a beautiful city, and the celebrations are top-notch. We’re definitely coming back next year.”

Mombasa residents expressed their pride in the successful tourism-driven celebrations, noting the significant socio-economic impact. “It’s wonderful to see our city bustling with life. The tourists are bringing in much-needed revenue, boosting local businesses, and creating jobs for residents,” said a local resident.

Accommodation providers across the city reported a surge in bookings, with many increasing prices to reflect high season demand.

As the clock struck midnight, the sky erupted in fireworks, painting the night with vibrant colors. The collective cheer of the crowd echoed across Mombasa, marking the city’s grand welcome into 2025. It was a New Year celebration that left an unforgettable impression on all who experienced it.
