Safina Party Leader and businessman Jimi Wanjigi has issued a forceful condemnation of President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of involvement in illegal abductions and extrajudicial killings that occurred during recent anti-government protests.
Speaking at a press conference at a Nairobi hotel with his lawyer Willis Otieno and other party leaders, Wanjigi called for a nationwide demand for justice and accountability.
“I am sounding an alarm. We are on the edge of an abyss, moving rapidly in the wrong direction. We must all wake up and demand the truth, accountability, and justice,” Wanjigi asserted.
The politician alleged that the current administration is directly responsible for the abductions, enforced disappearances, and killings of young people, claiming these actions are part of a deliberate strategy to instill fear among Kenyans.
He urged the Inspector General of Police to adhere to the constitutional mandate of independence and human rights protection.
Wanjigi also criticized President Ruto’s commitments to address these issues, accusing him of insincerity and mocking the families of the victims.
“President Ruto is hypocritically mocking, laughing, and demeaning the abducted whose loved ones are crying daily,” Wanjigi stated.
He further accused the president of violating the constitution and failing to uphold his oath of office.
Wanjigi’s remarks follow a contentious period with the administration, including a recent police raid on his home on August 8, 2024, related to his criticisms of the government’s policies.
