Migori County Governor Dr. Ochillo Ayacko welcomed European Ambassador Mrs. Henriette Geiger, along with ambassadors from Austria, Poland, Germany, and Sweden, to the county’s state house.
The Ambassador’s meeting is aimed to enhance collaboration between Migori County and the European Union (EU) and explore potential development opportunities.
“The European Union has been of support in our journey to grow Migori and to grow Kenya,” expressed Governor Ayacko, acknowledging the EU’s significant contributions to the county’s growth and development.
During the discussions, topics ranged from blue economy, fishery, Agriculture, tourism, climate change, climate-smart agriculture, to trade.
Ambassador Geiger highlighted the EU’s involvement in financing a one-stop border post to facilitate trade within the East African Community (EAC), aiming to boost regional trade and economic growth.
Moreover, the ambassadors emphasized the free trade agreement and economic partnership between the EU and Kenya, ensuring duty-free access for Kenyan products to the EU market.
“This agreement will benefit the people of Migori by promoting trade and economic development,” stated the ambassadors collectively.
Ambassador of Sweden, Mrs. Caroline, also noted the Socom Environment Institute funded by Sweden, which has trained numerous individuals in Migori on weather event handling, prediction, and prevention of damage to people, property, and agriculture.
The ambassadors pledged continued collaboration with the Migori County government to harness the county’s potential for growth and development, ensuring maximum utilization of resources for the benefit of its residents.
