Migori Deputy Governor Dr. Joseph Mahiri has called upon President William Ruto to remember the Kuria Community in his appointments.
Mahiri, who spoke during a groundbreaking ceremony to establish a sickle cell hospital in Kuria West Sub-County, lamented that despite the Kuria community voting for President William Ruto, the community has not fully benefited from the fruits of his government.
He stated that Ambassador Daniel Wambura, the outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to the Republic of Burundi, was recalled without any redeployment.
“In the government of President Uhuru Kenyatta, the Kuria community used to have two Ambassadors; now the only one we had in this government has been recalled”, decried Mahiri.
He also cited that Prof. Chacha Nyaigotti-Chacha, who had chaired the University Council in Kenya, was reassigned to chair the Nairobi University Council, highlighting it as a demotion.
Mahiri also explained that positions of Directors and Chairs in various parastatals cannot be equated as serious job opportunities that the Kuria people can be proud of.
“Those parastatals hold sitting two or three times a year and allowances given per sitting, and no one should say that we have been given jobs”, he lamented.
On the issue of roads in the Kuria Region, Mahiri urged President Ruto to focus on roads that can assist all Kurians instead of listening to the area Member of Parliaments who wants to divert roads to suit their interest.
The Deputy Governor highlighted that roads passing through Ntimaru-taranganya-ikerege-getonganya to Migori, and the one from Senta to Isebania border are roads that will serve the entire Kuria and connect it to Migori town-Kisii and Homabay, and the Isebania border.
“We will not allow anyone to divert these roads to remote villages aimed to benefit the interests of a few individuals in the society”, he noted.
