Nyabondo boys’ volleyball team has clinched their ticket to the East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Tournament, set to take place in Uganda from August 17, 2024.
The victory came after a dramatic showdown against Hospital Hills High School in the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association finals.
The match, held at Kisii school, was nothing short of exhilarating.
Hospital Hills High School started strong, capturing the first set with a nail-biting 26-24 victory.
However, Nyabondo showed unwavering resolve, turning the tide in the subsequent sets.
With a strategic mix of powerful spikes and precise serves, Nyabondo dominated the second set, winning 25-15.
They continued their impressive performance by taking the third set 25-20 and closing out the fourth with a commanding 25-16.
Their triumph not only secured them a third-place finish but also ensured their direct entry to the prestigious East Africa tournament.
This victory is a testament to the team’s resilience and skill, attributes highlighted by their coaches, Mr. Evans Oliech and Mr. Dancun.
“The students’ discipline and self-determination were pivotal in this success,” said Coach Oliech.
The excitement did not end there for Kisumu County.
The Butere girls’ soccer team has also made headlines by becoming national champions.
They defeated Nyakach Girls 2-0 in a thrilling final held at Gusii Stadium in Kisii County.
Principal Mr. Jared Opanga of Nyabondo School expressed immense pride and optimism for the team’s future.
“I am ecstatic about our team’s achievement and confident that we will work tirelessly to bring the trophy home to Kisumu. Our athletes are ready to showcase their talent on an even bigger stage,” he remarked.
Both Nyabondo and Butere will be representing Kenya with pride at the East Africa tournament.
As the countdown to the East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Tournament begins, all eyes will be on Nyabondo and Butere, with local fans eagerly anticipating their performances.
