Winners and losers in the Migori County Assembly shifts

Members of the Migori County Assembly have convened a meeting to make changes in assembly committee leadership.

The shift follows what they termed as gross misconduct by some of the committee leaders of the house.

The move followed the de-whipping of some assembly members from the committee leadership on March 28, 2023, by the Orange Democratic (ODM) party, Migori.

The changes in the committee leadership have led to a double blow especially the members that graced the visit by President William Ruto in Uriri constituency in Migori on March 26, 2023.

The changes have been made according to Migori County Assembly Standing Orders NO. 158 (1) allows the county assembly party that nominated a member to a select committee to notify the speaker of discharging the member from the committee.

According to the notice released by County Assembly deputy speaker Mr David Chacha, Samson Olima (North Kadem Ward), George Omamba (North Kanyamkago), Norman Ogola (East Kanyamkago) and Peter Mijungu (West Kanyamkago) are the victims of the change.

The change also follows a controversy at the County Assembly premises that led to an exchange of blows among the MCAs which promoted intervention by the police.

The fellow members have accused the said MCAs of the assembly to be dining and going to bed with the Kenya Kwanza which they accuse of hiking the cost of living for Kenyans.

Samson Olima will now be replaced by Mr Brian Osodo of Kachieng Ward in the lucrative Water and Energy committee.

At the same time, George Omamba’s position will be taken by Tobias Okello of Kakrao Ward in the health service committee.

The early childhood and vocational training committee will be chaired by Esther Migose of Central Sakwa, a position that was formerly held by Norman Magaya while Peter Mijungu will now step down for Erickson Omondi of Wasweta II in the justice and legal affairs committee.

North Sakwa Member of County Assembly will now replace Esther Migose in the Members Service and Facilities committee.
