Coastal Leaders Applaud Kenya Kwanza’s Economic Policies as Ramadan Iftar Unveils Reduced Fuel Prices

Coastal leaders have praised the Kenya Kwanza administration for its effective policy interventions that have lowered the cost of living, particularly evident in the recent reduction of petroleum prices.

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority’s announcement of reduced pump prices for super petrol, diesel, and kerosene has been lauded during an Iftar dinner organized by UDA-nominated Senator Miraji Abdillahi in Mtongwe, Likoni constituency.

Matuga Member of Parliament Kassim Tandaza urged the Matatu Owners Association to adjust transport in line with the decreased fuel prices, emphasizing the need for fairness in fare adjustments.

“When the fuel price increased by Sh3, the fare from Kwale to Likoni rose from Sh100 to Sh150. I appeal to Matatu industry players before enforcement measures are taken, to consider reducing fares, despite the free market dynamics,” stated Tandaza.

However, Former Tana River Governor Hussein Dado highlighted the decreasing prices of basic commodities, attributing this trend to government interventions such as subsidized fertilizers and a strengthening local currency.

‘The price of maize flour has been reduced because of government-subsidized fertilizers. Let’s be patient; our President wants to transform a country like South Korea and other Asian tigers in the coming years.’ He added,

Nominated Senator Miraji Abdillahi commended the Kenya Kwanza government’s efforts to fulfil its manifesto promises, particularly in job creation through initiatives like the Affordable Housing Program.

“Our Eastern region neighbours have constructed mango factories, yet not a single Coast Governor has established a factory that would elevate our pride in devolution. Industries hold the potential to generate employment opportunities for our youth,” said Senator Miraji.

Ms. Miraji called on coastal governors to prioritize development projects that enhance community livelihoods, emphasizing the potential of initiatives like the Galana Kulalu project and the Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone for economic growth and employment generation.

Abdillahi urged coastal leaders to set aside political differences and unite in supporting government initiatives, including the fight against drug abuse.

She also emphasized the importance of cooperation among leaders to transform the region and create opportunities for youth employment through value-added industries and economic zones.

“Mombasa can be a value addition hub, it will create employment for many youths. As leaders let’s cooperate to transform our region,” she said, urging, coast leaders to stop political bickering and support the government in the fight against the drug abuse menace, concluded Miraji.
