2027 Governor hopeful Barasa fault ongoing demolitions in Bungoma town

Bungoma County 2027 gubernatorial aspirant on DAP-K party Zacharia Barasa on Saturday led other Azimio leaders Eugene Wamalwa, former Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi and Roots Party leader George Wacjakoyah visited the demolition affected business people in Bungoma town

The leaders addressed the ongoing mistreatment and discrimination towards the local residents by the Bungoma County government.

“A fair government should treat all community members equally, regardless of their status or position,” said Wamalwa.

Expressing their discontent, the leaders strongly condemn the targeted demolition of shops in both Bungoma and Kanduyi towns, claiming that the destruction is unfairly and biased towards benefiting high-ranking government officials.

The leaders asserted that if the government is truly investing in demolitions then it should extend its actions to include the residential homes of the government who have settled on public land, Barasa is demanding treatment.

“We stand in solidarity with the affected business owners, committed to seeking justice on their behalf,” Barasa stated, adding that they will stand firm with the affected business people.

“The destruction of livelihoods has caused irreparable harm to the local residents, and we will not stand idly but protect our people,” Wamunyinyi said.

The Azimio politicians also met the Muslim community at the ravaged Jamia Mosque expressing their deep disappointment and outrage at the desecration of this sacred place of worship, they declared unwavering solidarity and support to the Muslim community.

They vowed to seek justice and hold the Bungoma County government accountable for their incomprehensible actions.

“The desecration of the Jamia Mosque is a blatant violation of religious freedom, and we will fight for accountability,” said the Roots party leader.

With the intent to shed light on the alleged mistreatment of Bungoma residents and apply pressure on the county government, the leaders believe that their visit and advocacy will bring about positive change.
