Kenya Airways Donates Boeing 737 Aircraft to Mang’u High School to Inspire Future Aviators

Kenya Airways (KQ) has donated a Boeing 737-700 aircraft to Mang’u High School, marking a significant step in supporting the next generation of aviation professionals. The donation is part of the airline’s efforts to inspire and cultivate interest in aviation studies among young learners.

In a statement, KQ expressed its excitement over the unique gesture: “We are making history with the donation of a Boeing 737 to Mang’u High School, inspiring the next generation of aviators!”

The aircraft was officially received by Mang’u High School’s Chief Principal, John Kuria, who shared that the process of acquiring the aircraft began more than three years ago. Kuria emphasized that the aircraft would enhance the school’s aviation curriculum and provide students with hands-on experience, while also broadening their understanding of the aviation industry both locally and globally.

“We are thrilled to receive this aircraft from Kenya Airways. This journey began three years ago, and today I am filled with joy. This donation is not only a gift to the school but also to me personally in my teaching career,” said Principal Kuria. “This aircraft will significantly boost our aviation studies program and enable us to train students on both the Kenyan and global aviation markets.”

”The handover ceremony was attended by notable figures including Archbishop Rev. Philip Anyolo, Dr. Wilfred Kiboro (Chair of Nation Media Group), KQ Chief Strategy & Innovation Officer Hellen Mathuka, Mang’u students, and alumni. The donation follows a similar handover by former Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen, who officially transferred the decommissioned Kenya Airways aircraft to the school in 2024. Murkomen highlighted the significance of the donation, particularly in relation to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which emphasizes hands-on learning and real-world applications.“The donation of this aircraft, Boeing B737-700, is an act of nobility and an affirmation of KQ’s support for the CBC, which focuses on accentuating students’ interests in particular areas of study, harnessing their innate talents, and converting their passions into careers,” said Murkomen. “I wish to thank Kenya Airways for this commendable act of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that will inspire hope in the students of Mang’u High School, assist in the modelling of their skills, and transform abstract theories into practicable concepts.”The donation is expected to significantly enhance the students’ understanding of aviation, providing them with the tools and knowledge to pursue careers in the aviation industry and beyond.
