The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) has urged the Teacher Service Commission (TSC) to address grievances concerning statutory deductions and bank loan repayments in the latest development.

Knut Secretary-General Collins Oyuu announced that some teachers have received repayment demands from financial institutions due to unremitted statutory deductions.

Mr Oyuu highlighted that these issues, alongside the delay in the payment of Phase II of the 2021/25 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), form the crux of the union’s grievances.

He warned that if these issues are not resolved promptly, Knut will call for a strike during the upcoming third term, which could potentially disrupt national examinations.

“This is the best time to call a strike,” Oyuu declared, underscoring the union’s seriousness about their demands.

The outcome of these negotiations will be closely watched, as a strike could have significant implications for the education sector and national examinations.
