Suna West Member of Parliament, Peter Masara, demonstrated proactive leadership by spearheading the disbursement of the 2024 NG-CDF bursaries within his constituenc.
The disbursement, which covers both secondary and tertiary education categories, follows the government’s allocation of 62 billion shillings to Members of Parliament for NG-CDF bursaries, aimed at supporting financially challenged students.
Masara, who received a total of 30 million shillings, personally led the disbursement in various wards, including Wiga, Wasimbete, Wasweta II, and Oruba Ragana.
The funds, currently credited to 4,000 beneficiaries, provide each student with 10,000 shillings directly deposited into their educational institutions.
Addressing the community during the events held in each ward, Masara acknowledged the collaboration of education stakeholders, particularly the bursary office and the vetting committee.
He praised their dedication in ensuring the swift and equitable distribution of funds to deserving and qualified students.
“I am glad to inform you that we are the first constituency to disburse bursaries. I want to thank the chairmen of the vetting committee for passionately doing a tremendous job in making clear our vision of education for all,” said Masara.
While emphasizing his commitment to providing quality education, Masara called for parental collaboration to achieve a 100% transition rate.
Despite concerns about some schools’ performance in the last KCSE results, he urged parents not to withdraw their students but to trust his administration to address challenges and bring about positive changes.
In attendance were various heads of schools, present to receive bursary cheques for their institutions. St. Celestine Nyangubo Girls received the highest amount, banking 1,670,000 shillings.
Accompanying Masara were MCA Oruba Ragana ward Beatrice Akomo, MCA in waiting Wasweta II Ms Beryl Awuor, MCA Wasimbete ward Julius Mirimbo, and MCA Wiga Kelly Roberts.
They all expressed support for Masara’s seven years of dedicated service in advancing education within the constituency.
