The Department of Water Services has announced new measures to combat the increasing incidents of vandalism affecting water pipes in Lodwar Municipality.

Mrs Esther Lokitoe, Acting Managing Director of the Turkana Urban Water Company, made this announcement during the repair operations for vandalized pipes at Lokaparparae.

“The company has directed its technical staff to ramp up routine surveillance of the water supply systems and to engage continuously with the community about the detrimental impacts of vandalism,” Lokitoe stated.

She emphasized that the company is collaborating closely with local leaders and residents to raise awareness on the importance of safeguarding the water supply infrastructure.

Recent vandalism was uncovered following public reports, prompting Lokitoe to urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the water office for immediate action.

The repair work has successfully restored the supply of clean and safe water in Lokaparparae, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the emergency response team.

Mr Mike Ekai, Operations Manager, confirmed, “We have sealed all the leakages and restored the damaged pipes.”

Residents, who chose to remain anonymous, have pointed to water vendors and herders as possible culprits behind the vandalism. They have expressed their willingness to cooperate with county authorities by reporting any suspicious behavior.
