Over 200 students from Migori County benefit from Elimu Scholarship program

As the secondary schools across Kenya prepare to admit the last lot of Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates, a total of 252 students from Migori County have been fully sponsored by the Elimu Scholarship program.

Speaking during the flagging off of the scholarship award, Migori County Director of Education, Jacob Onyiego said that the beneficiaries will benefit from fully paid school fees, transport to the schools, and other personal effects taken care of.

“As the beneficiaries will be joining different secondary schools next week, we are glad that their education has been fully sponsored by Elimu Scholarship, thanks to the brains behind this initiative,” said Onyiego.

Onyiego thanked the selection advisory committee for having worked round the clock to beat the deadline as well as giving the beneficiaries time to prepare for the task ahead of them.

“Thanks to the committee that ensured that the process was seamless and that the most suitable candidates have been selected for this course,” he said.

The County director of education also thanked other education players such as National Government Constituency Development Fund for supporting the course.

Migori County governor Ochillo Ayacko who graced the event thanked the national government for the initiative, promising to follow suit in making education accessible to all.

While speaking at the event attended by various education stakeholders, Governor Ayacko said that his administration intends to also sponsor 16,000 students across the county to different secondary schools.

“I want to assure the education stakeholders supporting this course that my administration will also unveil a total of 16,000 beneficiaries of the Governor’s scholarship ahead of the admission of the students to various schools,” said Ayacko.

Ayacko said that the 16,000 beneficiaries will join other learners who have benefitted or are still benefitting from the Governor’s Scholarship initiative, a continuation of the former Migori County Governor, Okoth Obado.

He encouraged the national government and the county governments to continue partnering to ensure that the Kenyan citizens receive seamless key service delivery, especially through supporting education that unlocks endless potential to everyone.

“As we mark this important day in our children’s lives, I encourage the two levels of the governments to continue working closely in supporting the youth and the vulnerable in the society to continue unlocking endless potentials,” said Governor Ayacko.

The governor was also accompanied by the County Executive Committee Member for Education, Rahab Rhobi, and Chief Officer for Education, and Prof. Rose Odhiambo among other dignitaries.
