Kenyan Gen Zs, renowned for leading nationwide protests against the contentious finance bill, have been offered a transformative opportunity through 6000 civic education scholarships. The European Business Institute of Luxembourg (EBU), in collaboration with the Uamuzi Foundation, a Kenyan organization, has announced 5000 tuition-free scholarships for Gen Zs to pursue certificate courses in Artificial Intelligence and Business Management. This initiative aims to empower Kenyan youth and legislators by providing accessible civic education programs that foster positive societal change.
EBU has formalized this partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding with Uamuzi Foundation, allocating an additional 1000 scholarships for legislators to undertake online capacity-building courses in Leadership. The collaboration was initiated after EBU identified potential candidates through Uamuzi Foundation’s mobile app, which connects voters with leaders, thereby promoting political engagement.
Dr. James Muli, President of EBU, emphasized the program’s focus on youth empowerment and commitment to supporting Kenyan youth in holding their leaders accountable. “Our tuition-free civic education program offers affordable and accessible quality courses designed to equip both legislators and youth with the knowledge and skills essential for driving positive change in their communities,” he stated. The scholarships ensure financial barriers do not hinder educational access for Gen Zs, aiming to inspire effective leadership and engagement among legislators and youth alike.
Elvis Sitati, Founder and CEO of Uamuzi Foundation, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with EBU, highlighting Uamuzi as a platform enabling meaningful youth participation in governance processes. “Today marks a significant milestone as we announce the allocation of 5000 fully funded scholarships for young people and 1000 scholarship courses for legislators,” he remarked. Sitati emphasized the platform’s role in facilitating engagement among youth and leaders, underscoring its potential to enhance civic education and empower future leaders.
Registration for these scholarships is currently open, with a deadline of August 1, 2024, for Gen Z applicants. For more details, interested individuals are encouraged to visit EBU Civic Education Program.
