Former U.S President Donald Trump was grazed by a bullet during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The incident has sparked concerns about security at political events as Trump continues his bid for the 2024 presidential election.
The rally, held in Butler’s town square, saw a large turnout of supporters.
The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm until gunfire erupted.
Witnesses reported a sudden commotion as shots were fired, causing panic among the attendees.
“They heard the shots, and everybody dropped to the ground,” said U.S. Representative Ronny Jackson, who was present at the rally.
“A bullet crossed Trump’s arm, causing a superficial wound. He was bleeding, but medical personnel quickly attended to him.”
One attendee, Martha Johnson, described the chaos: “It was terrifying. One moment, we were all cheering, and the next, people were screaming and ducking for cover. I saw President Trump being escorted away by Secret Service agents.”
Another witness, Tom Williams, shared his experience: “It was surreal. I’ve never experienced anything like it.
The shots seemed to come out of nowhere. We were all just trying to stay safe and make sure our friends and family were okay.”
The shooter, identified by the FBI, was immediately apprehended.
The authorities have yet to release the individual’s identity or motive, but the incident has already raised questions about the adequacy of security measures at political rallies.
President Trump addressed the incident later, thanking his supporters for their concern.
“I’m alright, just a scratch,” he said in a brief statement. “We will not be intimidated. Our campaign will continue stronger than ever.”
The event has prompted reactions from political figures across the spectrum.
President Joe Biden condemned the act, calling it “a sick and cowardly attack.” He emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of all political candidates and their supporters.
As the investigation continues, the focus remains on enhancing security protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
Trump’s campaign has announced that they will review their security measures to ensure the safety of their events moving forward.
