Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has firmly rejected speculation about a possible impeachment motion against him, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to fulfilling its promises to Nairobi residents.
Addressing attendees at the launch of phase 3 of the Dishi na County kitchen initiative in Umoja, Sakaja characterized the impeachment rumors as unsubstantiated distractions.
“We have successfully established 17 kitchens across 17 sub-counties. We remain undeterred by negativity and are committed to delivering on our promises,” Sakaja stated. “Our focus is on serving the people, not engaging in unfounded gossip.”
The Governor also refuted claims that he was removed from President William Ruto’s jet to China, clarifying that his schedule was dedicated to local project launches.
“Reports about being on a plane to China are false. My priority was the event in Umoja today,” Sakaja clarified.
Sakaja praised the collaborative efforts between President Ruto and Raila Odinga, underscoring that his administration is effectively functioning despite having a minority in the county assembly.
“Despite initial skepticism about working with the opposition, our inclusive national government is proving successful. We fully support this approach,” he added.
County Assembly Members, including Umoja MCA Mark Ronaldo and Korogocho MCA Absalom Odhiambo, echoed Sakaja’s stance, urging a focus on effective service delivery rather than impeachment discussions.
“This is not Meru County. We will not entertain impeachment motions. Instead, we should address any underperformance within the executive first,” Odhiambo remarked.
Governor Sakaja also announced an expansion of the Dishi na County feeding program to include informal schools across Nairobi, aiming to ensure that all students benefit from the initiative.
“We will explore how to extend the feeding program to all informal schools to support every student,” Sakaja concluded.
The Dishi na County program has established 17 kitchens throughout the county, enabling public schools to provide meals to students at a nominal fee of Ksh5.
