The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has firmly urged the Kenya Kwanza administration to prioritize the implementation of the constitution over calls for a nationwide dialogue, dismissing it as inadequate in addressing the current challenges facing Kenya.
Mr. Denise Kodhe, Secretary General of LDP, emphasized that dialogue proposed by President William Ruto is not the solution to the pressing issues affecting Kenyans, particularly the concerns raised by the youth through ongoing protests and demonstrations.
“The issues highlighted by Gen Z, including poor leadership and governance, demand concrete action from President Ruto’s administration,” Mr. Kodhe stated in a press release. “Calls for national dialogue and government of national unity are merely diversionary tactics aimed at maintaining the status quo, which fails to address the genuine grievances of dissatisfied Kenyans, especially the youth.”
LDP expressed skepticism towards previous dialogues and unity governments, viewing them as opportunities to protect political interests rather than serving the interests of ordinary Kenyans. Mr. Kodhe criticized such initiatives as platforms for recycling corrupt politicians and sycophants, exacerbating economic challenges through increased corruption and wasteful expenditure.
“Government of national unity serves as a political maneuver, not a solution to the systemic issues of bad governance and poor leadership,” Mr. Kodhe continued. “Kenyans, particularly the youth, deserve tangible actions such as parliamentary dissolution, corruption eradication, and job creation, rather than superficial political gestures.”
The party called upon President Ruto to heed the demands of the youth and commit to genuine reforms that address corruption, tribalism, nepotism, and excessive government spending. LDP emphasized the urgency for both President Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga to recognize and swiftly act upon the public outcry for meaningful change.
“Dialogue remains essential for resolving conflicts, but it cannot substitute for addressing the root causes of poor governance and leadership failures perpetuated by successive governments,” Mr. Kodhe concluded. “LDP stands with Kenyans, Gen Z, civil society, and non-state actors in peaceful advocacy until substantial improvements are realized.”
