The Secretary General of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Dr. Denise Kodhe, has extended an open invitation to ODM members dissatisfied with the party’s ongoing internal conflict, urging them to join an ideology-driven and stable political home in LDP.
Dr. Kodhe’s appeal comes at a time when the Orange Democratic Movement is grappling with deep leadership wrangles, succession battles, and widening ideological divisions. In recent months, ODM has faced a series of disruptive disputes following contested leadership changes, disagreements over succession, and clashes within the National Executive Council.
Grassroots members have raised concerns over opaque nomination processes, perceived favoritism, and a growing disconnect between the party’s top leadership and its traditional support base.
These tensions have resulted in increasing disenchantment across key regions long considered ODM strongholds, with supporters citing imposed candidates, exclusion from decision-making, and confusion over whether the party should maintain its opposition identity or align with the ruling administration.
A series of chaotic gatherings — including a disrupted Founders’ Dinner that ended in confrontation and accusations of external interference — has further signaled a party struggling to uphold internal cohesion and credibility.
Dr. Kodhe described the turmoil as evidence of a party that has strayed from its foundational principles.
He emphasized that LDP, the ideological mother of ODM, Wiper, PNU and other formations, has remained committed to liberal democratic values rather than transactional politics.
“The late former Prime Minister Hon. Raila Odinga was a staunch believer in liberal democracy and an active member of LDP during its formative years,” Dr. Kodhe noted. “I personally attended numerous international meetings with him through Liberal International, the Westminster Foundation, and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation. These engagements reflected his dedication to the liberal ideals that LDP continues to uphold.”
He urged ODM members seeking stability, democracy, and ideological clarity to consider joining LDP, a party he described as a principled alternative grounded in transparency and genuine political conviction.
