Murder suspect Kelvin Kang’ethe, who was sought by the United States for the murder of Margaret Mbitu, has been extradited.
Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga confirmed that Kelvin Kang’ethe departed Nairobi on Sunday and will face charges at Suffolk Superior Court in Pemberton Square, Boston, on September 3, 2024.
Kang’ethe, who fled to Kenya in 2023 following the alleged murder, was on the run until his recent apprehension by Kenyan authorities. Following his arraignment before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, a decision for extradition was made.
DPP Renson Ingonga emphasized, “I wish to reiterate my commitment and support whenever needed to the United States of America and in particular the prosecution team as they proceed with the next phase of the case.”
This extradition follows assurances given to FBI Director Christopher Wray during discussions in Nairobi, affirming the DPP’s dedication to ensuring swift justice in this matter.
The Director of Public Prosecutions reiterated his office’s commitment to executing its mandate in accordance with the law.
