The Webuye Campus, a constituent of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), is set to reopen next month with a renewed emphasis on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs. The campus has been closed for over five years, and its reopening follows a strategic agreement between the university’s management and Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka.

Under the new agreement, Bungoma County has leased the campus to MMUST for a period of 99 years. James Sakwa, a representative of MMUST, announced that the university’s board has decided to focus exclusively on offering TVET programs at the Webuye campus. This decision aligns with the institution’s strategic direction to enhance skills development in the region.

The revamped campus will operate with semi-autonomy and will offer a range of specialized diploma courses, including training in pedagogy. Additionally, it will introduce programs that recognize prior learning, an innovation aimed at acknowledging and building upon existing skills in the community.

Governor Lusaka expressed his commitment to supporting the campus’s development. “We are dedicated to ensuring that the necessary infrastructure is put in place to support the growth and operational efficiency of the Webuye Campus,” he stated.

The reopening of the Webuye Campus represents a significant step in strengthening technical and vocational education in the region, providing new opportunities for skill development and vocational training.
